If you are ever in the mood to see me cringe (I can make quite the face you know), than walk into Tanglewood Works someday and remark at what a lovely little painted furniture shop we have. Its the same face my daughter will show you when you tell her how cute she looks in her lacrosse goalie wear.
We are women on a mission and although we may be adorable or have adorable merchandise, that is not our mission, its just a byproduct.
My daughter’s mission is to block and block hard and take her team to victory. I have my own team and its called Team Tanglewood and we are on a mission to change the way people shop, and to save our planet one salvaged dresser at a time!
Before we can even get to the “Shop” part we have to start with the why? Why throw out perfectly good furniture just because it is no longer in style? Why are we such a throw away society? Why do we fill our landfills with cheap disposable furniture? Why do we keep buying new disposable furniture instead of buying long lasting furniture? Why oh WHY is there so little quality long lasting wood furniture to choose from anymore.
I could write a book on all these why’s but alas, I only have time for this blog post so I will skip to the chase and tell you that we buy what is trendy, we buy what is cheap and the mass manufacturers like it that way ’cause we keep coming back for more and we like eating Swedish meatballs after we shop all day. (I totally get this part.)
Team Tanglewood is here to help you stop this madness. Forget all the WHY’s and lets get to the HOW’s:
We know Gramma’s hutch is ugly and out of date. We know you want to stay on budget and still have cool furniture. We can help you in so many ways:
- Teach you how to makeover your furniture in our Free Demos, How-To Videos and Variety of DIY Classes.
- We can show you products that make that make doing that so easy! Like our full line of Debis Design Diary Chalk Style paints, Glazes and Waxes
- For less than a new pressed board hutch we can remake yours for you. You keep Gramma’s hutch in the family, you keep it out of the landfill and it looks “Gawrgeous”. See all the Details here, Custom Furniture Painting.
What we and other businesses like us around the world are trying to do is make Upcycling a household word. We want to invite you to rethink how your furnish your home or redecorate your cave. We want to show you how we salvage through art. Its not just about getting a trendy vintage piece because it is acceptable by the current style standards. Its about choosing what is good for our planet, which is about making more with what we have rather than making more, period.
The pieces we sell at Tanglewood Works are not the ones people fight over at estate sales and auctions. They are the pieces left behind and set out on trash day. We are the land of misfit furniture and we kinda like it that way. We haul, repair, reinvent, repurpose, paint, style, design, photograph and come full circle back to you. You are not buying furniture, you are paying an artisan to recreate the way we shop.
Nope, we are NOT just a painted furniture shop. We provide inspiration and supplies to help you to “Salvage through Art”! Together we can reduce waste, and turn our trash to treasure. We do it everyday and so can you. Come see what we’ve created from discarded items get inspired to create your own.
I will now step down from my upcycled soapbox that I made from discarded pallet wood 🙂
