Happy 2016, fellow dumpster divers and creative re-users! With 2016, comes new goals. If you’re still looking for some resolutions, then you’ve come to the right place. I’ve got big plans for 2016, and you should too!
Keeping New Year’s resolutions can be tough, so I decided to stick to 3 resolutions. I know what you’re thinking: JUST 3 resolutions. Ha! How easy is it to keep 3, when it’s terribly difficult to stick to JUST ONE?! You’re right, but that’s what makes this year different. I’m picking resolutions that I’m passionate about. I’m betting that since I WANT to do these things, I’ll actually do them. Seriously!
So, what gets you out of bed in the morning or excited for the weekend? What have you been itching to do for months or even YEARS? Whatever those things are, make sure that you make some time this year to do them. In fact, make 2016 the year of doing things that you ACTUALLY want to do, not just what you SHOULD do!
While you’re brainstorming the New Year’s resolutions that you’ll actually keep, here are my 3 goals for 2016.
1. MAKE SPACE FOR WHAT YOU LOVE.
While this can be interpreted in a variety of ways, for me, this is about physical space and FURNITURE! Are you surprised? You shouldn’t be, except to know that for all of the creative upcycling I do for the shop, I have not really taken the time to be creative in re-loving the rooms within my home. So, at the end of last year, I took on a basement reorganization and loved the results! Our basement went from a spooky mess to an organized hang-out space for my two kids (Check out the before and 2 ‘after’ pictures above. It feels like a totally new space!) That project inspired me to take on a renovation. I’m starting in my dining room. That means that I need to clear out the unnecessary and make some serious space for pieces that my family and I are going to LOVE. This is definitely going to be interesting, but I’m excited for when the room is done, and I am obsessed with it!
2. DO WHAT YOU LOVE.
I hope you’ll join me in making 2016 the year of spending time doing things you absolutely love! While I do love my work (and get to do that every day already!), I’m going to do something else that I recently realized I love: spending time networking and meeting other small business owners. Just before the New Year I attended a few meet-ups with other local businesses where we exchanged ideas and encouraged one another. I left the meeting so inspired that I kept my husband up all night with my brainstorming! Running a small business can make meetings like those few and far between. But, I enjoyed it so much that I’m committed to making sure that I attend a meeting like that at least once a week in 2016.
3. TRY SOMETHING NEW.
Not only will I be taking on a renovation (as mentioned in goal #1), but I plan to blog about it! You may think that neither of those are new things for me, but they both really are! As a business owner, I sell my style and aesthetic, but I haven’t been able to bring it home. This is the first project that I’ll be able to put my dumpster diva style on display in our home. The blogging will be new too! I’m used to providing tips, recommendations and sharing what I love and do, but I’ve never shared a renovation, or a project of this size, from start to finish. I hope that you’ll join me on that adventure and tune into my ‘Not for Resale‘ blog that will be launched soon! Until then, I leave you with a sneak peak of what’s to come with three ‘before’ pictures of the first room I will tackle.
Once you’ve figured out your resolutions, I hope you’ll share them with me! Here’s to 2016!
